BIBLIOGRAPHY PATHFINDER

A bibliography is a list of books, magazines, and other sources from which you get information for your reports. It is arranged alphabetically by author (or title if there is no author). The bibliography is on a separate sheet of paper and it is located at the end of the report.

Why do we need a bibliography?

1.       Your teacher can go to all resources you used and look up the information you presented.

2.     It makes your information believable. Anyone can look up the information and understand you didn’t make it up.

3.     It protects you from accusations of plagiarism. Remember, citing sources not only gives credit to the ideas of others, it adds truth to your research. If you don’t cite your sources you can be accused of plagiarism.

What sources should be cited?

1.       Direct quotations.

2.     All paraphrased information.

*Tip #1---Write the call number of the resource on your bibliography note card so you can always find the resource when you need it.

*Tip #2---There are MLA bibliography forms located in the library as well as the MLA Handbook (808 GIB).
