About the Music Department
The music department is an integral part of the Winman community that proudly provides music education and performance opportunities to the vast majority of Winman students. With a wide range of performing ensemble, varying from jazz band to orchestra, the music department covers the full spectrum of music.
The mission of the Winman Junior High School Music Department is to enable all students to become proficient in performance as well as the creation, and response to the aesthetic qualities of music, enhancing the students’ quality of life by making music a lifelong experience.
About the Faculty
The Winman music faculty share the responsibility of coordinating this rapidly evolving department. With a wide range of performing ensembles varying from jazz band to chorale, the music department covers the full spectrum of music performance opportunities.
Mr. Edward Fowler is entering his 12th year of director of the band and jazz band. Orchestral activities are directed by Mr. Peter Kiley. Mrs. Kristine Gervais is director of choral
activities and also manages the drama club. All three music directors also serve as general music classroom teachers.
Concert Schedule
The 2007 Winter instrumental concert will be held on Tuesday December, 18. The choral concert is scheduled for Thursday December 20. Both events will begin at 7pm in the Winman auditorium. Student performers are encouraged to check with the music directors for specific reporting times.
For the 2008-2009 school year we have an initial confirmation of the following date:
Thursday December 18, 2008 - Winter Instrumental Concert
Thursday June 4, 2009 - Spring Instrumental Concert
