Winman Orchestra

Welcome to the Winman Junior High School Orchestra! We are looking forward to a great year of making music together.

Attendance: Attendance is mandatory at all rehearsals and performances. Dates of all performances and rehearsals will be posted in advance.

· If you will be absent or tardy for any reason bring a signed parental note with the reason for your absence and turn it into the music director, one week prior to your anticipated absence.

· For an illness or family emergency: Notify the music director before the scheduled rehearsal time.

· Absence from a Dress Rehearsal: If you are unable to attend a scheduled dress rehearsal your participation in the upcoming concert will be at the discretion of the music director.

· Tardiness: A late arrival to a rehearsal is disruptive. Two tardies will be counted as one absence.

Performances: The Winman Orchestra performs in two major concerts each year. In addition to the winter and spring concerts, other performances will be

scheduled throughout the school year.

Concert Dress: Appropriate concert dress is required at all Winman Orchestra performances

· Males: Black dress slacks, black dress shoes, black socks, long sleeve white dress shirt.

· Females: Long black skirt or black dress pants. Mini-skirts are not acceptable. White blouse or dress shirt. Black shoes.

· Males and Females: Sneakers and jeans are not acceptable.

Rehearsals: Orchestra rehearsals will be held on Tuesday afternoon in the Auditorium starting at 2:20 and running until dismissal for late busses.

Additional rehearsals may be scheduled in preparation for performances.

· Arrive promptly before rehearsal begins, instrument ready, music stand out with music in place, and ready to begin.

· Bring all music, a music stand and a pencil to rehearsals.

· Come musically prepared.

· Make rehearsals a priority by honoring the attendance policy.

· Respect all members desire to participate fully without distraction.

· No food or drink in the rehearsal rooms.

Grading Policy:

· Participation: 40%

· Performance Tests: 30%

· Concert Attendance 20%

· Written Work 10%

Practice: Regular individual practice is expected of all Winman Orchestra members. Please set aside a time and place each day, free of distractions, to practice your orchestra music.

Supplies: Please be prepared with the proper supplies for your instrument. Items such as strings, rosin, etc. are best supplied by the student. Music will be provided for all students by the music department.

Class Location: Orchestra class will be held in room B333.

Instrument Storage: Instrument storage will be provided for Winman Orchestra members in the Orchestra Room (B-333). Members may also choose to secure their instruments in their assigned school locker.

Audience Etiquette: The Winman Orchestra is an educational organization and wants to expose children to the excitement of live concerts. We would like your family to enjoy music together. Keep in mind that arriving late disrupts not only your fellow audience members but also the musicians onstage. Please wait for a pause between pieces before entering the auditorium.
