Mr. Peter Kiley, director
Welcome to Winman General Music! General Music is a primarily hands-on, exploratory class designed to expose non-musicians to music. Our goal is to develop basic musicianship skills and proficiency through instrumental performance, reading and notating music, listening to and evaluating music, and composing music. Students will experience performing on acoustic guitars, electric pianos, and a variety of percussion instruments in a series of in-class performance sessions in which students perform for their peers. The general music classroom is equipped with acoustic guitars and electric piano keyboards. Students are encouraged to bring in personally owned instruments for use
during class. All instruments are secured throughout the school day in room B-333.
Guitar Ensemble
Guitar ensemble is a performing group consisting of general music students who desire to take their musical learning beyond the class experience. The Guitar ensemble will have the opportunity to perform with the music department as a part of the Spring Concert.
Guitar ensemble will be getting started in January. If you are interested, please see Mr. Kiley.
Guitar Class materials:
For guitar education we use the Hal Leonard FastTrack Method book 1. As a supplement we also make use of the FastTrack Songbook 1 and Songbook 2. These methods are supplied to the students for use in school and may be purchased at most music stores for home study. For more advanced study, I highly recommend the Berklee Modern Method for Guitar (vol. 1-3) which is the standard text for guitar instruction at the Berklee College of Music.
In case you have forgotten your way around the guitar....
