Dear Parents,
Reading Week this year is from March 31 through April 5.
We are encouraging the children to read and to help others who are less fortunate and do not have the opportunity to go to school by participating in a program called Pennies for Peace. This program is run by the Central Asia Institute in Bozeman, MT. Children are asked to donate pennies. Pennies have very little value to us, but can purchase so much more in central Asia. These pennies will be used to help build schools for children, especially girls, in the remote Karakoram mountain villages in Pakistan and Afghanistan. We are challenging our students to ask friends and relatives to pledge one penny for each page the child reads during Reading Week. Children are also encouraged to donate pennies on their own as well.
Please fill out the pledge form and return it to school by Friday, March 28. Funds will be collected the week following Reading Week.
