SUPERINTENDENT

Dear Parent(s) or Guardian(s):
As a continuing part of the graduation by proficiency diploma system, the English Language Arts (ELA)/Math Assessment Committee has finalized plans for a spring common assessment. Based on feedback from staff and students following the mid-term assessment, the format for the spring assessment will differ slightly from the mid-term.
All students in grades 9 and 10 will complete an applied learning task in English. All students in Intro to Algebra I, Algebra I, Intro to Geometry, Geometry, and Geometry Honors will complete an applied learning task in math. Tasks will be administered in class sometime between April 21st and May 16th (at a natural stopping point based on the task, i.e. end of teaching a novel, end of math unit, etc.) and will count as an end of unit assessment grade. They will also be used as portfolio entries for students. In addition, students will take a final exam similar to those they have had in the past that will count as 20% of the cumulative grade.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your school’s principal.
Sincerely,
ELA/Math Assessment Committee
